Meet the Governors

Debs Upham Small

Deborah Upham

Co-opted Governor

I have been living in Hartley Wintney for over six years with my husband and two children – my son is at Greenfields and my daughter at Oakwood. I am really pleased to be able to give some of my time to support Greenfields in the role of Chair. It is an exciting time for the school, having received an excellent Ofsted report back in March 2017 confirming the strong foundations for our improvement plans, vision and ambition.
My career has been in marketing, communications and project management and I am currently working in the NHS as a programme lead, supporting the integration of health and social care. I thoroughly enjoy using this experience to support Greenfields as a co-opted governor and helping the school to grow, working with a fantastic group of people. Having spent a year as the marketing governor lead, I have now handed this role over but continue as the English lead as part of the Curriculum Committee, which fits with my passion for writing and reading.

Parent Governor

My husband and I have lived in Hartley Wintney since 2009, having spent 10 years in Fleet.  I have two daughters at Greenfields and a third daughter at Oakwood.  I enjoy being involved with both schools and really appreciate the great educational opportunity which our children have in this area.  I become a parent governor in 2014 as I was keen to support Greenfields further, especially at this exciting time of change and growth.

I work part time as a Director of Integrated Assurance and Risk Management. I have a degree in mathematics and am a qualified accountant, so enjoy working with figures and analysing data.  I am pleased to put these skills to good use as Chair of the Resources Committee and have governor responsibility for tracking Pupil Premium performance, which allows me to see day-to-day how the schools targets individual pupils to optimise their learning and personal development.  I also sit on the Pay and Performance Committee.

Having 3 young children I have limited spare time, but when possible I enjoy gardening and walking and have recently rediscovered the joys of playing the flute and singing in a choir.

Headteacher Governor

I have been the Headteacher of Greenfields Junior School since Sept 15 after almost 18 years of teaching experience across a range of primary settings, including Hounslow and Bracknell Forest.

I have been a staff governor at several of the schools I have worked in and this had reinforced   my understanding of the role of Governors in supporting the school to improve.

As a busy working mum of 2 children I don’t get much free time, but I enjoy watching my son play football and my daughter dancing. Visiting new places and stately homes is something I enjoy and watching films with my children. My favourite pastime is sitting in the sun with a good book.

My wife and I have lived in Hartley Wintney for 25 years and our 2 children each spent 4 successful years at Greenfields.

I am now retired after a successful career in business, specialising in IT and Business Processes.

Greenfields has always been a good school but I would like to help it along its journey of becoming an outstanding school.

My interests largely centre around sport and regularly play tennis and squash.

Vice Chair

Co-opted Governor

My husband and I have lived in Hartley Wintney for ten years and fortunately have our children and their families all living within a thirty mile radius of our home. This of course means that we are on call for a certain amount of childcare, which we enjoy very much.

I gave up a full-time teaching career in Primary Education when we moved to this lovely village and have since taken up some of the many opportunities available to expand my interests and friendships. Racquet sports, walking, reading, gardening and the local Hag Rocks Choir all help to keep me out of mischief.

I joined the governing body at Greenfields in January 2013, as a Local Authority governor. During this time I have had several roles within the team, and am currently Vice Chair. My specialist roles at the moment are Chair of Curriculum Committee, Chair of Pay and Performance Committee and Inclusion Link Governor.

Greenfields is a vibrant, expanding school and it is a privilege to be part of the team, especially at such an exciting time of change and growth. Being involved in a variety of ways, in moving the school forward, see the children flourish in our community and joining in with the celebrations of achievement in the school is very worthwhile.

Co-opted Governor

I have worked in the local area for over 16 years and know lots of local business owners in the community, having managed several offices in the estate agency sector. I am responsible for sourcing development opportunities in my day job, which has given me a good understanding of scrutinising the financial aspects of business. This is a skill I can utilise in my role as governor. I live with my partner, who is from Church Crookham, and hobbies include playing in a local covers band and jogging around the leafy roads of the village.

My husband and I have lived in Hartley Wintney for over 11 years now. I have a son and daughter at Greenfields and my youngest has just started at Oakwood.
My background is in mathematics and IT and for several years I was an IT consultant specialising in the software testing of safety critical systems.
Hartley Wintney is a fantastic place to live and with my spare time I wanted to give something back to the community by volunteering as a parent helper at Oakwood and as a governor at Greenfields. My hobbies include craft activities and walking in the countryside.

I have been living in Hartley Wintney for just over a year with my wife and two children, a daughter at Greenfields and a Son at Oakwood. I enjoy learning the piano (and occasionally playing the bagpipes) so I am delighted to see the continued success of Glee Choir and the School orchestra.

I work locally as a Director of Customer with commercial responsibility for sales, marketing, digital transformation and customer experience. I enjoy using my skills and experience to support the School in this exciting period of growth, with specific responsibilities as the Maths and Assessment lead sitting on the Curriculum Committee. In addition, I provide support across the School marketing plan and associated events.

      Staff Governor

I have been a teacher at Greenfields Junior School since 2011 and have loved every minute of it – even the Ofsted inspections! I led music for 5 years and history since 2014; through the history, I am also part of the Hampshire Primary History Steering Group in which I lead training for other teachers across the county.

My previous career as a journalist has left me as a stickler for grammar and correct punctuation – something of which the children are only too aware!

When I am not teaching, planning or marking, I can often be found curled up with a book or my cross stitch – I can never sit without doing anything. Something which my husband can often find quite irritating!

My husband and I have lived in Hartley Wintney for twenty-five years and our three daughters attended Greenfields school; my husband is also a former Governor at Greenfields.

My career in social work, all within Children’s Services, spans thirty years and I hope to use my experience to help and support the School.

In my spare time I enjoy going to the gym, running and yoga.

I am employed by Hampshire Governor Services and gained my Accredited Clerk qualification in April 2015. I currently provide clerking services to two schools and in addition work part-time as an exam invigilator in a local secondary school.

I moved to Hartley Wintney with my husband and children 12 years ago and we enjoy the village life and community. Both of my children attended Greenfields and I was Secretary of the PTA so I have very fond memories of that time. After a break of several years I am now enjoying being involved with the school again.

In my spare time I enjoy making pottery, singing and playing the piano.
